Gandhi said, "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." What better way to do that than through the service that we do at Soroptimist?
As a Soroptimist, I feel that one of the greatest gifts I have received has been my membership in this very international organization. I shall be forever grateful to the members of SI of Camelback in Phoenix, Arizona for chartering my club, SI of the Kachinas. That wonderful gift of membership has opened so many doors and provided more opportunities than I can ever count.
I am committed to giving back to Soroptimist through the monthly giving program for the Laurel Society. In addition, I wanted to leave a small legacy to Soroptimist that is part of our estate planning. Our trust attorney helped us set this up with our living trust documents and it was very easy to do. Giving back to Soroptimist is just a very small way that I can repay Soroptimist for all that I have been given. The more of us who can do this, the greater the legacy that Soroptimist can have to benefit the lives of women and girls worldwide! Every donation and legacy commitment makes a difference!

Planned gift commitments are acknowledged on the Soroptimist website and thanked with a beautifully designed pin. In addition, when your gift is received, your name will be inscribed on the Laurel Legacy memorial plaque at Soroptimist headquarters.
If you've already included Soroptimist in your estate plans, please let us know so we can properly thank you and make sure your gift will be used as you've intended. Sharing your intentions allows us to plan for the future.
Through a provision in your written and executed will, you can make a gift in the form of cash, securities, real estate or personal property. There are many types of bequests. Choose the one that best fits your needs and intentions.
Naming Soroptimist as the beneficiary of a qualified retirement plan asset such as a 401(k), 403(b), IRA, Keogh, profit-sharing pension plan, or other donor-advised funds, will accomplish a charitable goal while realizing significant tax savings.
You can turn underperforming assets (stock, cash in a savings account, CDs, savings bonds, etc.) into a gift to Soroptimist that provides income to you. Your Charitable Gift Annuity will give you quarterly, fixed payments for life and tax benefits, too.
Name Soroptimist as a beneficiary and designate us to receive all or a portion of the balance of your fund through your fund administrator (you can also make a grant to us at any time from your donor-advised fund). The balance in your fund passes to Soroptimist when the fund terminates.
When you donate appreciated stocks, bonds, or mutual fund shares instead of cash, you'll receive charitable deductions at full, fair market value while reducing capital gains impact.
If you're 70 ½ or older, you can make a gift directly from your IRA to Soroptimist. While there is no charitable deduction for a rollover gift, you do avoid the income tax on the donated portion of your required minimum distribution.

I heard a quote from a Western Canada Region member who said, "Being a Soroptimist is the best gift I have ever given myself." And I agree. I have gained so much more than I have given. I support Laurel Legacy because I want to make sure this same gift is available for our daughters, our granddaughters, and our great-granddaughters!

If you are working with a professional advisor or advising a donor, here's a useful guide for including Soroptimist International of the Americas, Inc. in a charitable estate plan.
A gift from your will to Soroptimist can be made in the form of cash, securities, real estate or personal property. Work with your financial advisor to choose the one that best fits your needs and intentions.
Significant tax savings are available when you name Soroptimist as the beneficiary of a qualified retirement plan. These gifts can be made through a 401(k), 403(b), IRA, Keogh, profit-sharing pension plan, or other donor-advised fund.
When you establish a charitable gift annuity, you will receive fixed monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, or annual payments for life at an attractive payout rate. A significant portion of your annuity payment is typically tax-free. After your lifetime, Soroptimist will get the full benefit of your generosity.
A Donor-Advised Fund is a great way to continue your family’s tradition of philanthropy. It is also a simple, flexible and tax-efficient way to support the mission of Soroptimist. Contributions are tax-deductible and investment growth in the fund is tax-free.
Gifts of appreciated securities (stocks and bonds) offer you a range of potential benefits, such as the avoidance of capital gains taxes when the securities have been held long-term—that is, for more than one year.
A charitable IRA rollover makes it easier to use your IRA assets during your lifetime to make a charitable gift to Soroptimist. Your qualified charitable distributions can satisfy all or part of the amount of your required minimum distribution from your IRA.
